This is a Japanese Ningyo(older sister)origami paper doll. The high quality yuzen and chiyogami used in this piece is heavily embellished with gold that brightly shimmers when shown with light. The doll's hair is made from authentic ningyo crepe paper which adds a lovely texture. Although it is not visible in these photos, the paper which backs the piece is semi-shiny and textured. The piece is covered by a protective sheet of glass. The matted border gives a depth to the piece, creating a shadowbox effect.
